Te mapa
Aprilia lies south of Rome in the province of Latina, on flat country that was drained and resettled in the 1930s. It was founded in that period as one of the new towns of the land reclamation programme, and its original centre was designed as a compact, formal plan around a main square with a church and civic buildings.
The town has since grown far beyond that core. Newer districts, industrial zones and scattered housing spread outward along the main roads, including the route toward Anzio and Nettuno on the coast. On a map this growth appears as a dense centre with long arms reaching into farmland divided by straight tracks and drainage lines, a clear trace of the reclamation era.
The area around Aprilia saw heavy fighting during the Anzio campaign of 1944, and much of the original town had to be rebuilt afterward. Today it is one of the larger towns of Lazio outside Rome. An Aprilia map poster shows a place whose layout was drawn deliberately on an open plain, and whose later growth softened that first geometry.
The original centre is organised around a formal square, with streets set out in a deliberate, almost diagrammatic pattern that still stands out against the looser growth around it.
The main road toward Anzio and Nettuno runs through town as a long, direct line, pulling development southward and linking the inland plain with the Tyrrhenian shore.
Farmland around the town is divided by straight drainage channels and rural roads, a regular rectangular pattern left by the land reclamation works of the 1930s.

Koteā ko Aprilia
Families in Aprilia often trace their roots to the settlers who came to farm the reclaimed land, and a map of the town speaks to that shared story. It also appeals to anyone interested in planned towns and the way a drawn design ages over decades.
