Te mapa
Apucarana is in the north of Paraná state, a region that colonisation companies opened to settlement in the 1930s and 1940s by surveying towns and farm plots across the red-earth plateau. The city stands on relatively high ground for the region. Its centre follows a planned grid, with avenues and blocks laid out regularly, and newer neighbourhoods spread over the surrounding slopes.
Coffee drove the region's early growth, and the farmland around the city still shows the long, narrow plots typical of northern Paraná. Today Apucarana is known nationally as a centre of cap and hat manufacturing, with many small factories making bonés for the Brazilian market. The main highway links it with Londrina to the east and Maringá to the west.
An Apucarana map poster shows the clarity of a planned Brazilian city. Straight avenues, repeated blocks and a tidy centre give way at the edges to curving streets that follow the land. It makes a strong graphic image in any of the five styles, and a meaningful one for people who grew up in the region.
The central grid follows the original survey. Its regular blocks and broad avenues meet at right angles, making a crisp, orderly pattern at the heart of the map.
Newer neighbourhoods on the outskirts bend with the terrain. Their curving streets contrast with the straight lines of the historic core.
Around the city, long narrow farm plots run down the slopes toward the streams. They are a legacy of the colonisation surveys that shaped northern Paraná.
