Te mapa
Bad Zurzach lies in the canton of Aargau in northern Switzerland, on the south bank of the Rhine, which forms the border with Germany here. The town is small. On a map its compact historic centre sits close to the river, and newer residential areas spread inland across gently rising ground towards the wooded hills.
The town has deep roots. A Roman fort once guarded the Rhine crossing here, and in the Middle Ages Zurzach became known for trade fairs that drew merchants from far away. Its religious centre is the Verenamünster, a church associated with Saint Verena, whose veneration brought pilgrims to the town for centuries.
In the twentieth century thermal water was found beneath the town, and Zurzach developed into a spa resort, later adding Bad to its name. A Bad Zurzach map poster shows the town's quiet structure: the river along its edge, the historic streets near the water and a thin network of roads reaching out into the surrounding countryside.
The river forms the northern edge of the map, a wide band of water that marks the border with Germany and gives the composition a clear natural boundary.
The streets of the old town cluster near the river, and their compact pattern contrasts with the looser layout of the newer neighbourhoods further inland.
The thermal baths and the green space around them form a more open area within the town, a reminder of the water that shaped its modern identity.
