Bānda Map Poster & Print
Bānda is the headquarters of Banda district in southern Uttar Pradesh, in the Bundelkhand region. The Ken River passes to the west of the town on its way north toward the Yamuna. The town itself has an older, denser centre of market streets, and newer colonies spread along the roads that radiate outward across the surrounding plain.
The Ken is known for the Shajar stone, a translucent agate with dark, plant-like patterns found in its bed. Local craftsmen cut and polish it into jewellery and ornaments, and it is one of the town's recognised crafts. The wider district also contains the hill fort of Kalinjar, one of the most storied fortresses of central India.
