Te mapa
Belalcázar is the main town of the Páez municipality in the department of Cauca, in the Colombian Andes. It is located in a mountainous area, with steep slopes and deep valleys, and the town's streets have to adapt to the uneven ground. From above, the settlement appears as a small cluster of blocks on the hillside, with roads winding away along the contours.
The town takes its name from the Spanish conquistador Sebastián de Belalcázar. The wider area is home to Nasa communities, the indigenous people also known as Páez, and lies within the Tierradentro region, which is known for its archaeological park with underground tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in a neighbouring municipality.
A Belalcázar map poster shows a place shaped more by terrain than by planning. The river valley, the curving mountain roads and the tight grid of the centre together form an irregular, organic composition. The empty space around the town reflects the scale of the mountains around it.
The small grid of central blocks sits on sloping ground, and its edges bend and break where the terrain becomes too steep for building.
A river runs through the valley below the town, and its course forms the most important natural line on the map.
The roads leading out of Belalcázar follow the mountains in long curves and switchbacks, adding graceful lines to the edges of the poster.

Koteā ko Belalcázar
Belalcázar rarely appears on posters, which makes a map of it all the more personal for people with roots in Páez or Tierradentro. It shows the town in its mountain setting, simply and respectfully.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, in Spanish or any language, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The HD files cost $9, and printed posters ship from partners in over 30 countries.
