Te mapa
Biskra lies at the northern edge of the Sahara in north-eastern Algeria, just south of the mountain ranges that separate the desert from the high plateaus. On the map the city sits beside the wide, often dry bed of the Oued Biskra, with the grid of the modern town on one side and palm groves spreading around it. Beyond them the land opens into flat desert.
The palm groves of the Ziban region, of which Biskra is the centre, are known for Deglet Nour dates, and the city is often called the Queen of the Ziban. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries it drew European writers and artists, among them André Gide and Henri Matisse, who came for its light and mild winters.
A Biskra map poster shows the tension between the regular grid of the town and the softer, irregular edges of the oasis. It is a strong image for anyone with ties to southern Algeria, and a reminder of how a city can grow and hold its shape at the very margin of the desert.
A broad riverbed runs past the city, dry for much of the year, drawn on the map as a wide, pale band separating neighbourhoods and palm groves.
Dense date palm plantations wrap around parts of the city, their irrigated plots forming a fine, irregular texture against the straighter lines of the streets.
South of the city the built-up area and the groves thin out quickly, and the map gives way to open ground, marking the start of the Sahara.

Koteā ko Biskra
Biskra is a place people carry with them: the dates, the light, the edge of the desert. A map of the city makes a meaningful gift for someone from the Ziban, or a clear reminder of a journey south.
You can write your own title, add a subtitle with a name or year and edit the coordinates line. The Sand style suits the setting well, alongside Classic black & white, Noir, Paper and Blueprint.
