Te mapa
Bogor lies about sixty kilometres south of Jakarta, on higher ground at the foot of the volcanoes Mount Salak and Mount Gede-Pangrango. Known in the colonial era as Buitenzorg, it served as a cooler retreat for the Dutch governors-general. The Ciliwung and Cisadane rivers flow north through the city in deep valleys, cutting the urban area into long strips.
At the centre of any Bogor map poster is the Bogor Botanical Garden, founded in 1817, which covers a large area beside the Presidential Palace and its deer-filled grounds. The main roads form a one-way loop around the garden, which appears on the map as a wide, soft-edged green shape. Beyond it, streets follow ridges and river valleys in twisting, organic patterns.
Bogor is known as the City of Rain, with some of the highest rainfall of any city in Java, and afternoon thunderstorms are routine for much of the year. It is also home to IPB University, formerly the Bogor Agricultural University. The map shows a town where terrain, water and a nineteenth-century garden still decide how the streets run.
The historic garden fills a large area in the centre of the city. It forms the main open shape on the map, surrounded by the loop of roads.
The Ciliwung and Cisadane run north through the city in deep channels. They divide the urban area into strips and bend the streets around them.
Away from the centre, roads follow the uneven volcanic terrain. They create winding, branching patterns rather than a regular grid, giving the edges a rich, organic texture.

Koteā ko Bogor
Bogor holds a special place for people who studied there, grew up in its rainy hills or spent weekends away from Jakarta. The map, centred on the great garden, is a fitting way to remember the city.
