Te mapa
Boulder City was built by the federal government in the early 1930s to house workers on Hoover Dam, and it is one of the few towns in the American West designed from scratch as a whole. Its plan is still easy to read from above: streets spread out in a broad fan below the Bureau of Reclamation building on the hill, with parks and civic spaces at the center.
Around this core, newer neighborhoods follow the desert slopes, and the town then gives way to open land, rocky hills and the long arms of Lake Mead to the east. The city is also known for a rule unusual in Nevada: casino gambling is not allowed within its limits, which has kept its character quieter than that of Las Vegas, about half an hour away.
A Boulder City map poster shows the rare clarity of a planned town. The triangular historic district, the green strip of parks, and the looser streets on the edges read like a drawing from a planning textbook. Add the desert roads and the edge of Lake Mead and the composition becomes both ordered and open.

A chain of green spaces runs through the historic center, giving the dense early streets a calm open core.
East of town the streets give way to desert hills and the irregular shoreline of Lake Mead, the reservoir formed by Hoover Dam.

Boulder City appeals to people who love design, history or the desert. Its plan is unusually legible, and the map works as a piece of design history as well as a picture of home.
