Te mapa
Brockville stretches along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River in eastern Ontario, at the eastern end of the Thousand Islands. It was named after Sir Isaac Brock, the British general who died in the War of 1812. It is often called the City of the Thousand Islands, and the river is the dominant line on any map of it.
The downtown is laid out on a tidy grid that runs down to the waterfront, with a main commercial street parallel to the shore. Under the city runs the Brockville Railway Tunnel, opened in 1860 as Canada's first railway tunnel and now a lit walking attraction. Residential streets spread north and along the shore in both directions.
A Brockville map poster sets that grid against the broad band of the river, with islands scattered off the shore. Clean downtown blocks, a long waterline and small islands in open water make for a balanced composition that works well at large print sizes.
The river runs along the whole southern edge of the city, wide and open, with small islands dotted offshore, giving the poster a strong horizontal base.
A regular street grid slopes down to the waterfront, and the main street runs parallel to the river, a clear and orderly pattern at the heart of the map.
Canada's first railway tunnel, opened in 1860, runs beneath the downtown from the waterfront northward. Today it is a pedestrian attraction, a historic line hidden under the modern street plan.

Koteā ko Brockville
Brockville suits anyone who has spent summers on the river, grown up in town or boated through the Thousand Islands. The map records the shoreline and streets as they are, a calm reminder of a place defined by water.
