Te mapa
Buckingham sits on the Lièvre River a few kilometres above its confluence with the Ottawa River, in western Quebec. From above, the town follows the river. The older streets cluster tightly along both banks near the falls and bridges, and residential neighbourhoods spread over the higher ground on either side, with forest and farmland beyond.
The Buckingham map poster draws its character from that river. The Lièvre enters from the north in long bends, narrows through town and then widens again as it heads toward the Ottawa. Bridges stitch the two halves of the town together, and the road toward Gatineau and Ottawa runs west along the valley.
Buckingham grew around sawmills and later pulp and paper, powered by the Lièvre's falls. That industry shaped the riverbanks and the layout of the old centre. In 2002 the town merged into the city of Gatineau, but it has kept its own identity and its compact, river-bound form, which is clearly visible on a map.
The river curves through town in strong, sweeping bends. It divides Buckingham into distinct sections and gives the map a natural centre line.
Bridges link the banks at key points near the old centre. They are small but defining details where the street grid meets the water.
South of town the Lièvre widens and runs toward the Ottawa River. A wider frame shows the confluence and the broad valley between Quebec and Ontario.
