Te mapa
Byumba is the main town of Gicumbi District in Rwanda's Northern Province, not far from the border with Uganda. It stands high in the hills, at an altitude that gives it a notably cool climate for its latitude. On a map, the town spreads along ridges, and its roads curve with the land rather than following a straight grid.
Rwanda is often called the land of a thousand hills, and the area around Byumba shows why. The slopes are covered in farmland and tea plantations, divided into small plots that follow the contours. The main road north toward Uganda passes through the town, linking it with Kigali to the south.
A Byumba map poster captures a highland town where the terrain decides everything. Streets bend around the hilltops, and the fields beyond form fine patterns in black and white. For people who live here, who grew up here or who have worked in the region, it is a recognisable and exact portrait of home in the northern hills.
Roads follow the tops and sides of the hills, curving with the ground. The layout clearly shows how the town is shaped by the high terrain.
Tea plantations and small farm plots cover the surrounding hills. They give the land beyond the town a detailed, textured look.
The main road links Byumba with Kigali and continues toward the Ugandan border. It is the key line connecting the town to the rest of the country.

Koteā ko Byumba
Byumba means something specific to the people who know it: cool mornings, green hills and a town on a ridge. A map of those streets is a simple, lasting way to keep it close. It suits a home in Kigali or a flat far away.
