Chopinzinho lies in southwestern Paraná, on the rolling uplands that stretch across southern Brazil. Its name comes from the Chopim river, which runs through the region, and the landscape around the town is made up of farmland, patches of forest and streams following deep, curving valleys.
The town has an orderly core of straight streets and rectangular blocks, the usual layout of towns founded during the settlement of Paraná's interior. The grid meets the terrain at its edges, where streets end at slopes and valleys, and rural roads continue outward over the hills.
