Te mapa
Ciudad Lineal takes its name from the plan of the engineer Arturo Soria, who in the late nineteenth century proposed a linear city built along one long central axis, with transport running down the middle and houses and gardens on either side. The avenue that carries his name still runs through the district, and on the map it remains the clearest line in the frame.
Only part of Soria's vision was built, and over the twentieth century the district around it filled in with apartment blocks, schools and parks. Its southern neighbourhoods, such as Pueblo Nuevo, Quintana and La Concepción, have tighter street patterns along Calle de Alcalá. The M-30 ring road marks the western edge.
Further north, the avenue passes through calmer residential areas where some of the original villas and garden plots can still be traced among newer buildings. Metro Line 4 follows much of the route below ground. A Ciudad Lineal map poster turns a piece of urban planning history into a clear graphic: one long diagonal, and the city that grew around it.
The long avenue that gave the district its identity runs diagonally across the map, the surviving spine of a nineteenth-century linear city plan.
The M-30 ring road runs along the district's western side, separating it from the older, denser neighbourhoods of central Madrid.
One of Madrid's longest streets crosses the southern part of the district, a busy line of shops and apartments leading out toward the east of the city.

Koteā ko Ciudad Lineal
Many madrileños call Ciudad Lineal home without knowing the story behind its name. A map that shows the long avenue and the neighbourhoods around it makes a thoughtful gift for residents and for anyone interested in how cities are planned.
