Colleferro Map Poster & Print
Colleferro lies in the Sacco valley south-east of Rome, a broad corridor followed by the railway to Naples and the A1 motorway, with the Lepini mountains rising to the south. Unlike the hilltop villages around it, the town is largely a creation of the twentieth century, and its map shows a planned layout on the valley floor rather than a medieval core on a summit.
The town grew around an explosives and chemicals works founded in the early 1910s by the Bombrini Parodi Delfino company, and became a municipality of its own in the 1930s. Several of its buildings and parts of its plan are associated with the engineer Riccardo Morandi. Rail lines, factory grounds and residential districts sit side by side, clearly readable from above.
