Te mapa
Dam Dam, more often written Dum Dum, lies on the northern edge of Kolkata in the flat, low-lying country of the Ganges delta. On a map it reads as a tight, continuous urban fabric with almost no open ground. Narrow lanes branch off a handful of main roads, and neighbourhoods run into one another without clear boundaries.
Railways shape the district more than anything else. Dum Dum Junction is a major suburban rail hub, and Kolkata's first metro line passes through it, so a Dam Dam map poster is crossed by several long, confident lines meeting at the station. To the north-east lies the city's international airport, named after Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
The name has travelled far: the arsenal that once stood here gave its name to the dumdum bullet in the late nineteenth century. Today the area is overwhelmingly residential and commercial. Its many small ponds, typical of Bengal, appear on the map as scattered pale shapes among the densely packed blocks.

Kolkata's first metro line runs through the area, linking it directly to the city centre and adding one more straight thread across the map.
The large, open outline of the airport to the north-east contrasts sharply with the crowded neighbourhoods, its runways showing as clean geometric bands.

Koteā ko Dam Dam
Dam Dam is a place many Kolkatans pass through every day and many more call home. A map of its crowded lanes and rail lines makes a strong graphic piece, and a personal one for anyone who grew up near the station.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps writing Dum Dum instead, edit the coordinates line and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Get six HD sizes for $9, or order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
