Te mapa
Dūngarpur means 'city of hills', and the map shows why. Rocky ridges of the Aravalli foothills rise around the town, and the older streets bend around their slopes. At the heart of the plan lies Gaib Sagar, a large lake whose irregular shoreline gives the town its main open space. The densest lanes gather between the lake and the hills.
The town was the seat of the princely state of Dungarpur. The Juna Mahal, an older palace built in several stages, stands on higher ground above the town. The Udai Bilas Palace stands on the banks of Gaib Sagar. The area is known for its distinctive grey-green local stone and for temples and pavilions built around the lake.
A Dūngarpur map poster places the lake at its centre and lets the hills and narrow lanes form the frame. This composition is gentler than the grids of many modern towns. It suits a place where the royal past, the water and the rocky landscape still shape the way people move through the streets.
The large lake lies at the centre of town with an uneven shoreline. It is the calmest open area on the map.
The Udai Bilas Palace sits by the water, while the Juna Mahal stands above the old town. Together they mark the historic centre.
Rocky ridges edge the town and push the streets into curves. They explain the name 'city of hills'.
