Te mapa
El Affroun lies in the province of Blida, at the western end of the Mitidja, the fertile plain behind Algiers. To the south the land rises quickly into the foothills of the Blida Atlas, and to the north the plain opens out into regularly divided fields. On the map the town forms a compact settlement where these two landscapes meet.
The town grew as an agricultural centre, surrounded by the orchards, citrus groves and vineyards that once defined the Mitidja. Road and rail routes linking Algiers with the west of the country pass through the area. El Affroun is also the terminus of a suburban rail line from the capital, which ties it closely to Algiers.
An El Affroun map poster shows a clear shift from order to relief. In the north, straight roads and field boundaries form a grid across the plain. In the south, roads twist upward into the hills. The town sits between the two, its streets gathered around a small centre.
North of the town, the flat plain is divided into long, regular fields and straight roads, which gives the lower part of the map a structured, geometric texture.
To the south, the terrain rises into the hills of the Blida Atlas. Roads wind with the slopes there, and the street network thins into scattered paths.
The railway toward Algiers crosses the plain in a long line through the town and is one of the strongest structural elements of the composition.
