Te mapa
Eupen is the capital of the German-speaking Community of Belgium. It sits in the valley of the Vesdre, called the Weser in German, close to the border with Germany. The town has two parts: the Oberstadt on the plateau, with its main streets and squares, and the Unterstadt by the river. Steep roads climbing the slope link the two.
To the south and east stretch the forests of the Hertogenwald and the moorland of the High Fens, and upstream a large dam holds back the Vesdre reservoir. The baroque church of St Nicholas, with its distinctive twin towers, stands in the upper town. The houses of former cloth merchants recall the trade that made Eupen prosperous.
A Eupen map poster brings together the dense upper town, the river line below and the wide forest margins around them. The contrast between the compact street network and the long, empty stretches of woodland makes a strong, balanced image. It suits anyone with ties to East Belgium or to the border region around Aachen.
The Oberstadt on the plateau and the Unterstadt along the river form two distinct clusters on the map, linked by roads that climb the valley side.
The river winds through the lower town from the reservoir upstream, a thin curving line that gives the map its natural axis.
Large woodlands stretching toward the High Fens surround Eupen on its southern side, leaving broad open margins around the streets on the poster.

Koteā ko Eupen
Eupen has a particular place in Belgium, with its own language community and a border history shared with Germany. A map of the town makes a fitting gift for anyone from East Belgium, or for people who have walked the High Fens and returned here afterwards.
