Flower Mound is a town in southern Denton County, in the northwest part of the Dallas–Fort Worth area. It takes its name from an actual mound, a small hill covered with native prairie grasses and wildflowers, which is still preserved as open land. The town has grown around it into one of the region's larger residential communities.
On the map, Flower Mound looks unmistakably suburban. Main roads divide the land into large sections, and within each section residential streets curve into loops and cul-de-sacs. To the south, the town reaches the shore of Grapevine Lake, whose irregular arms and inlets form the most dramatic shape on the sheet. Parks and green corridors fill many gaps.
