Friedrichsdorf is in Hesse at the foot of the Taunus hills, just northeast of Bad Homburg and within easy reach of Frankfurt. Huguenot refugees from France founded it in 1687 on land granted by the Landgrave of Hesse-Homburg, and French was spoken here for generations. The founders laid out the settlement along one long street, which is still the backbone of the old town.
Today Friedrichsdorf combines the old core with several once-separate villages, each with its own small centre, joined by roads across fields and orchards. A Friedrichsdorf map poster therefore shows a cluster of distinct settlements rather than one continuous mass, with the forested slopes of the Taunus rising to the northwest.
The town also has a place in the history of technology. Philipp Reis, who built one of the first devices to transmit speech electrically in the early 1860s, worked here as a teacher, and his house is now a museum. Friedrichsdorf was also long known for its rusk bakeries, a trade closely tied to the town's identity.
The old town follows the single long street laid out by the founders, lined with closely set houses. This linear pattern stands out clearly among the later suburban layouts.
Several former villages sit apart from the core, each a small knot of streets with fields between them. Together they give the map a scattered, archipelago-like composition.
The railway from Frankfurt runs through the town and on toward the Taunus. Its steady straight line links the districts and reflects the area's commuter character.

Koteā ko Friedrichsdorf
Friedrichsdorf appeals both to long-established families who know its Huguenot story and to newcomers who commute into Frankfurt. Put your own title on the map, add a move-in date or family name in the subtitle, and keep the coordinates line to make a personal record of home.
Classic black and white and Paper suit the historic street pattern, while Noir, Blueprint and Sand offer bolder or warmer versions. HD files cost $9 for six sizes as PNG and PDF, and printed matte posters are available with an optional wooden frame.
