Te mapa
Gajowice is a residential neighbourhood of Wrocław in Lower Silesia, lying southwest of the old town within the larger Fabryczna district. Much of it was built up in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when the city, then German Breslau, expanded rapidly beyond its historic core. War damage and post-war rebuilding left a mix of surviving tenements and later housing blocks.
On the map, Gajowice has a strong urban grain. Streets form a fairly regular grid of long blocks, many enclosing courtyards, crossed by wider avenues that carry trams toward the centre and the western districts. Pockets of green space break the pattern, and the close spacing of streets makes this one of the most finely textured parts of the city when drawn in black and white.
A Gajowice map poster is aimed at people who live here or grew up around one of its courtyards, and at those who studied or rented a first flat in Wrocław. It shows a single neighbourhood at close range, so individual blocks and streets are clearly legible, something a whole-city map cannot offer.
Long perimeter blocks built around courtyards give the district a dense, regular texture that is particularly striking in the Classic black & white or Noir styles.
Wider streets carrying tram lines cross the neighbourhood toward the city centre and outer districts, forming the main axes of the composition.
Parks, squares and courtyard gardens appear as open spaces between the blocks, softening the grid and giving the map room to breathe.

A neighbourhood map is more personal than a city map. For anyone who has lived in Gajowice, it shows the exact walk to the tram stop, the familiar corner shop and the block they called home.
