Te mapa
The Gold Coast stretches for kilometres along the Pacific in southeast Queensland, and its map is long and narrow. A continuous line of surf beaches runs from the Spit in the north to Coolangatta at the New South Wales border, backed by a thin strip of towers, most famously at Surfers Paradise.
Behind the beach, the Nerang River and a network of man-made canals create one of the most intricate water patterns in Australia. Residential islands and finger-shaped streets reach into the water, and further north the Broadwater forms a sheltered estuary. Inland, the land rises toward the green hills of the hinterland.
The city hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and draws visitors throughout the year for its beaches and theme parks. A Gold Coast map poster shows the contrast between the straight surf line and the maze of canals behind it.

The beach runs almost unbroken along the Pacific, a long gentle line that forms the eastern edge of the entire map.
North of the centre, the sheltered estuary opens behind the Spit, a broad calm area between the mainland and the barrier islands.
