Te mapa
The Gothic Quarter, or Barri Gòtic, is the oldest part of central Barcelona and stands on the low hill where the Roman colony of Barcino was founded. On a map it forms a dense block of narrow, winding lanes. La Rambla bounds it to the west, the straight cut of Via Laietana to the east, and the old port lies just to the south.
The curve of the streets around the cathedral still traces the outline of the Roman walls, and sections of those walls survive, built into later houses. Barcelona Cathedral and Plaça Sant Jaume, where the city hall faces the palace of the Generalitat of Catalonia, have been the religious and political centre of the city for centuries.
Via Laietana was driven through the old fabric in the early twentieth century and appears on the map as a clean straight line against the irregular lanes. A Gothic Quarter map poster captures that contrast, along with the arcaded rectangle of Plaça Reial and the tiny squares that open unexpectedly between the buildings.
The streets around the cathedral trace a rough oval that follows the Roman walls of Barcino, the oldest recognisable shape in Barcelona's street plan.
This rectangular square at the centre of the quarter is where Barcelona City Hall and the Palau de la Generalitat face each other across the open space.
Near La Rambla, this enclosed, arcaded square shows as a neat rectangle among the tangled streets, reached through narrow passages from the lanes around it.

Koteā ko Gothic Quarter
For many people the Gothic Quarter is Barcelona itself: the first walk from La Rambla, a flat rented for a summer, a proposal in a quiet square. Its intricate lanes make one of the most detailed and rewarding city posters.
Title it Barri Gòtic or Barcelona, add a date in the subtitle and choose one of five styles, from Classic black & white to Noir or Sand. The $9 HD files include six sizes, and printed posters on matte paper ship from partners in 30+ countries.
