Hanting is a district of Weifang in Shandong Province, on the low, level plain that stretches north toward the shore of Laizhou Bay. The flat ground has allowed a largely regular layout, with long avenues crossing at right angles.
From above, Hanting reads as a series of broad blocks: residential compounds, industrial parcels and newer developments laid out in straight lines, with older, finer-grained streets near the historic centre. Canals and small rivers cross the plain toward the sea, and farmland surrounds the urban area in a pattern of narrow rectangular fields.
Weifang as a whole is known as a centre of kite-making and hosts an international kite festival each spring.
