Te mapa
Heinsberg lies in the far west of North Rhine-Westphalia, a few kilometres from the border with the Netherlands. It is the seat of the district of the same name, which stretches to the Selfkant, the westernmost point of Germany. The town sits near the Rur valley, in flat, open farmland interrupted by villages and small woods.
A Heinsberg map poster shows a compact old centre with streets spreading out around a small hill, the Burgberg, where the church of St. Gangolf and the remains of the castle once commanded the landscape. Around it the town opens into a wider ring of residential streets and outlying districts that were once separate villages.
Heinsberg's position on the border has always shaped it, with roads running west toward Dutch Limburg as well as east toward Mönchengladbach and Aachen. On paper the town looks orderly and calm: a denser core, connecting roads fanning outward, and the Rur lowland giving the composition its gentle, open edges.
The small hill with St. Gangolf church and the castle remains marks the historic heart, where the oldest streets gather in a tight cluster.
Flat river country surrounds the town, crossed by watercourses and field roads that give the edges of the map an open, airy feel.
Routes lead west to the Netherlands and east into the Rhineland, a reminder of how close Heinsberg sits to the national frontier.

Koteā ko Heinsberg
Heinsberg is a home town for many families in the region and for people who crossed the border daily for work or study. A map of it is a modest, clear picture of a place that often sits at the edge of larger maps.
