Te mapa
Hermosa Beach is a small city in Los Angeles County, between Manhattan Beach to the north and Redondo Beach to the south. From above, it is a tight grid of short streets running down toward the ocean, crossed by longer north-south routes. The beach itself is wide and straight, bordered by a pedestrian path, the Strand, that runs its whole length.
At the centre of the shoreline, Pier Avenue leads into a pedestrian plaza and out onto the pier. Inland, Pacific Coast Highway runs through the city, and the Hermosa Valley Greenbelt, a long path following a former railway line, draws a narrow green strip through the neighbourhoods. The grid is dense, and lots are small.
Hermosa Beach has deep roots in California surf and beach volleyball culture, and the Surfers' Walk of Fame on the pier honours local figures. A Hermosa Beach map poster shows the whole city in one frame: the grid, the Strand, the pier and the clean line of the Pacific that makes the composition work.
