Te mapa
Herzogenrath lies in the far west of North Rhine-Westphalia, north of Aachen, directly on the Dutch border. The small River Wurm runs through the town in a green valley, and the built-up area spreads over the slopes on both sides. On a map, the town merges seamlessly with Kerkrade in the Netherlands, with no visible break in the street pattern.
The two towns share the Neustraße, or Nieuwstraat, a street whose centre line once marked the border. Today the line is barely noticeable on the ground, but it remains a symbol of cross-border cooperation. Above the Wurm valley, Burg Rode, a medieval castle, overlooks the old town. The area also has a long coal-mining history.
A Herzogenrath map poster shows a place where a national boundary disappears into ordinary streets. The Wurm valley draws a soft green line through the town, the castle area forms a small historic knot, and the street network continues straight into Kerkrade. In black and white, the map is a quiet illustration of how connected this part of Europe has become.

The River Wurm winds through a green valley in the town, dividing the built-up area and adding a soft natural curve to the composition.
The medieval castle stands above the Wurm, marking the old core of Herzogenrath and anchoring the historic part of the street network.
