Te mapa
Itauguá lies in Paraguay's Central Department, east of Asunción, on the main road that leads toward the interior. From above, the town combines a traditional Spanish colonial plan, a grid of streets around a central plaza, with newer neighbourhoods that stretch along the highway and gradually merge with the growing metropolitan area.
The town is famous for ñandutí, a fine, radial lace whose name means spider's web in Guaraní. Itauguá is regarded as its home, and it celebrates the craft with an annual festival. The lace's circular, web-like patterns are recognised as one of the most distinctive traditional crafts in Paraguay.
An Itauguá map poster shows how a historic market town meets a modern corridor. The plaza and the blocks around it form a neat grid, the highway draws a long, busy line through the town, and residential streets fill in the space between. In black and white, the pattern is as intricate as a piece of lace.
The historic square with its church sits at the heart of a regular grid of streets, the traditional core of the town.
The main road east from Asunción passes through Itauguá, with shops and newer buildings lining it in a long, continuous strip.
New residential areas extend outward in looser, less regular patterns, gradually linking Itauguá to neighbouring towns in the metropolitan area.
