Two joined cores
The older centres of Jelcz and Laskowice can still be picked out as separate clusters. Road links and housing built after the 1987 merger now tie them together.

Te mapa
Jelcz-Laskowice is a young town in its current form. It was created in 1987 when the neighbouring settlements of Jelcz and Laskowice were merged, and the map still shows it. Rather than one centre with rings of growth around it, there are two separate cores linked by roads and newer housing. The result is a stretched outline in the Oława district, southeast of Wrocław.
To one side lies the Oder, with its meandering channel, oxbows and wide green floodplain, which keeps buildings back from the water. On the other side, large areas of woodland push up against the edges of the town. Between them sit blocks of postwar apartment buildings, streets of detached houses and the large rectangular footprint of industrial sites. These give the plan its heaviest shapes.
Jelcz is best known in Poland for the Jelcz vehicle works, whose name has been carried on trucks and buses for decades, and that industrial past shows in the scale of the factory grounds. A Jelcz-Laskowice map poster captures a town shaped by a merger, a factory and a river. Each one leaves a clear and separate mark on the plan.
The older centres of Jelcz and Laskowice can still be picked out as separate clusters. Road links and housing built after the 1987 merger now tie them together.
The river winds past in loose curves, with old channels and open meadows beside it. Together they make a soft, irregular edge against the more regular town blocks.
The vehicle works and related sites cover large, geometric areas. On the poster they read as bold rectangles that contrast with the finer residential streets.
