Te mapa
Jersey City occupies much of a peninsula in northeastern New Jersey, bordered by the Hudson River and Upper New York Bay to the east and the Hackensack River and Newark Bay to the west. From above, its waterfront faces Lower Manhattan directly, and the street grid shifts direction between neighbourhoods, reflecting a city assembled from several earlier towns.
The eastern waterfront, once lined with rail yards and piers, is now filled with high-rise towers, marinas and a riverside walkway. To the south lies Liberty State Park, a large green expanse looking toward Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. The Holland Tunnel and PATH trains connect the city to Manhattan under the river.
A Jersey City map poster shows districts such as Paulus Hook, Downtown and Journal Square, each with its own grid, as well as the old Morris Canal basin and the long elevated line of the New Jersey Turnpike extension. The two rivers framing the peninsula give the composition strong, simple edges.
The eastern edge follows the Hudson, with piers, marinas and new towers directly opposite Lower Manhattan, one of the most recognisable waterfronts in the country.
A large park on the southern waterfront opens toward the harbour, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, a broad calm area on the map.
Neighbourhoods like Downtown, the Heights and Journal Square each follow their own grid, meeting at angles that reveal the city's patchwork origins.
