Te mapa
Juazeiro do Norte lies in the Cariri region of southern Ceará, in a green valley that stands out from the dry sertão around it. The city has grown so closely with neighbouring Crato and Barbalha that the three form a single urban area, often called Crajubar. On a map, their street networks now meet and blend.
Its identity is bound to Padre Cícero, the priest whose life and legacy made the city one of Brazil's largest pilgrimage centres. Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims arrive every year, and many climb the Colina do Horto, a hill at the edge of the city crowned by a monumental statue of Padre Cícero.
Beyond the city, the Chapada do Araripe forms a long, flat-topped plateau on the horizon. A Juazeiro do Norte map poster captures the dense commercial centre, the roads leading to the Horto and the neighbourhoods that join Juazeiro to its neighbours in one continuous web.
The hill with the Padre Cícero statue rises at the city's edge, reached by a winding route from the streets below. It is a fitting focal point for a pilgrim's map.
Juazeiro's streets merge with those of Crato and Barbalha, so a wider framing shows three towns joined into one continuous urban network.
Around the main churches and markets, short blocks and narrow streets create a tight, dark core. It stands out clearly against the looser grid of the outer districts.
