Te mapa
Kanata sits on the western edge of Ottawa, and from above it shows clearly how the place was planned. There is no single old core. Neighbourhoods of looping crescents and cul-de-sacs fan out from a few arterial roads, broken up by pockets of woodland, stormwater ponds and long green corridors that follow the small creeks.
Highway 417 cuts through the middle, separating the residential districts to the south from the business parks to the north, where the Ottawa River bends past at a distance. Kanata was merged into the City of Ottawa in 2001. It is best known as a technology hub, and Kanata North's campus-style office clusters appear on the map as large blocks set among trees and parking.
A Kanata map poster shows a suburb that works almost like a pattern: soft curves where an older city would have a grid, and dark patches of forest giving way to open fields at the edges. In monochrome, the rhythm of the street layout and the gaps between neighbourhoods matter more than any single landmark.
Residential streets curl into crescents and closed loops rather than a grid, so the neighbourhoods look like fingerprints, each one tied back to the arterial roads by a few collector streets.
The Queensway runs straight through Kanata, a heavy line with interchanges that separates the southern neighbourhoods from the northern business parks and technology campuses.
Creeks, woodlots and stormwater ponds run between the subdivisions, leaving soft open channels across the street pattern that make the structure of the suburb easy to read.

Koteā ko Kanata
People who have lived or worked in Kanata often know it by its commute and its neighbourhoods rather than a skyline. A poster of its street pattern is a quiet reminder of a first house, a first job in the tech parks, or a family that grew up among these crescents.
Every design can be personalised with your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example the name of your street or the year you moved in. Choose from five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, as a $9 digital file or a printed poster.
