Kathlāl is a town in the Kheda district of Gujarat, lying on the broad alluvial plain east of Ahmedabad. The country around it is flat and intensively farmed, and the town serves as a local centre for surrounding villages, with markets, schools and administrative offices. Its position on a main road running east from the Ahmedabad region has shaped much of its growth.
From above, the older part of town shows the close, irregular lanes typical of Gujarati market settlements, where houses crowd together and streets turn at short intervals. Newer development spreads outward along the road in looser plots. Village tanks, a common feature of this landscape, show up as small rounded shapes among the fields.
