Te mapa
King's Lynn grew up where the River Great Ouse runs its final stretch towards The Wash, and the map still shows how closely the old town hugs the water. Narrow streets run parallel to the riverbank, with lanes and small yards stepping down to the quays. On the opposite bank, West Lynn and open fenland make the western side of any frame noticeably quieter.
In the Middle Ages the town was one of England's leading ports and traded with the Hanseatic League; Hanse House survives as a reminder. Two large market places anchor the plan: Tuesday Market Place to the north and Saturday Market Place beside the Minster to the south. Between them, the historic core forms a long, narrow band along the river.
A King's Lynn map poster captures that relationship between merchant town and tidal river, with the broad line of the Great Ouse set against the tighter texture of the medieval streets. Further east, later suburbs and main roads spread outward across flat Norfolk ground, giving the composition a clear sense of older and newer layers.
The river forms a strong, wide line along the western edge of the town, flowing north towards The Wash and dividing the old port from the flat fields beyond.
Tuesday Market Place and Saturday Market Place appear as open rectangles within the dense street pattern, the twin anchors around which the medieval town developed.
Short lanes run from the main streets down to the riverside, a pattern left by centuries of merchants loading and unloading goods along the waterfront.
