Te mapa
Komárno stands where the Váh meets the Danube, and the Danube forms the border between Slovakia and Hungary. From above, water shapes nearly everything. The Danube sweeps broadly along the south, the Váh arrives from the north, and the town is wedged into the angle between them, with a grid of streets around an older, irregular core.
The town grew around one of the largest fortress systems in Central Europe. The Old and New Fortresses sit at the eastern tip, right where the rivers meet. A long line of bastions once enclosed the town, and parts of it still show as geometric shapes on the map. For centuries the site guarded the Danube crossing.
A Komárno map poster brings out these layers: the arrowhead of the fortresses, the angular traces of former ramparts, the bridges across the Danube and the wide open water on two sides. Here military geometry meets river curves, and the result is instantly graphic.

The Old and New Fortresses occupy the tip of land where the rivers meet. Their angular bastions create sharp geometric shapes that are rare on modern maps.
Remnants of the outer defences, including bastions around the town, trace long angular edges through later neighbourhoods and parks.

Koteā ko Komárno
History enthusiasts, lovers of the Danube and anyone with roots on either side of the border will recognise this map at once. The mix of river bends and star-shaped fortifications gives it a bold, almost architectural quality.
Add your own title, a subtitle with a date and the coordinates line, and choose among Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint suits the fortress geometry especially well. The digital files cost $9 for all six sizes.
