Kosi, often called Kosi Kalan, is a town in Mathura district in western Uttar Pradesh, part of the Braj region associated with the stories of Krishna. It lies on the main highway between Delhi and Agra, and on the map this road is the backbone of the town: a strong, straight line with the streets gathered on either side.
The surrounding land is the flat plain west of the Yamuna, farmed intensively and crossed by canals and minor roads. Kosi has long been a trading town for the farming villages nearby, and its older lanes form a dense, irregular core close to the highway.
