Te mapa
Kotlin lies in the eastern Gulf of Finland, about thirty kilometres west of central Saint Petersburg. From above it is long and narrow, like a spearhead pointing west. The town of Kronstadt fills the eastern part, while the western half is lower and wooded. Artificial forts ring the island in the shallow water around it and appear on the map as small geometric islands.
Kronstadt itself follows a regular grid of streets, crossed by canals and framed by harbours on the southern side, where the naval base and old docks lie. The Saint Petersburg flood barrier crosses the island from north to south and carries the city's ring road across the gulf in a long line. A Kotlin Island map poster shows the fortress, the grid and the dam together.
Peter the Great founded the fortress here in the early eighteenth century to guard the approach to his new capital. For most of the centuries that followed, Kronstadt was the main base of the Baltic Fleet. Its domed Naval Cathedral is a local landmark, and the town and forts are included in the Saint Petersburg World Heritage listing.
The naval town's streets form a regular grid across the eastern part of the island, broken by canals, parks and harbours along the shore.
Small artificial islands carrying fortifications ring the approaches to Kotlin. On the poster they appear as tidy geometric shapes scattered across the water.
The dam that protects Saint Petersburg from storm surges crosses the island, and the ring road runs along it in a straight line toward both shores of the gulf.

Koteā ko Kotlin Island
Kotlin is a map for sailors, naval families and anyone who knows Saint Petersburg and its maritime history. With its grid, forts and dam, it makes an unusually structured composition for such a small island.
You can add a ship name, a year of service or coordinates in the title and subtitle, and choose from five styles. Blueprint suits naval subjects especially well, and a free watermarked preview lets you check the design first.
