Kukshi is a town in the Dhar district of western Madhya Pradesh, on the ground that slopes from the Malwa uplands down toward the Narmada valley to the south. On the map, it is a compact centre of irregular streets with main roads leaving for surrounding towns, and a wide landscape of fields and seasonal streams around it.
The town serves as a local centre for a largely rural area, with many Bhil and Bhilala communities living in the villages around it. The countryside here is gently hilly, and small watercourses that run only in the monsoon cross the fields, leaving faint winding lines on the map between the roads.
