Lancaster lies in southern Dallas County, about fifteen miles south of downtown Dallas, on the gently rolling prairie of north Texas. Founded in the 1850s, it grew around a traditional courthouse-style town square, which still sits at the heart of the map. The town's outer shape is defined by major transport routes. Interstate 35E runs along the western side and Interstate 20 crosses to the north, forming bold boundaries on the map.
