Te mapa
Les Sables-d'Olonne faces the Atlantic on the Vendée coast, and its map is shaped by one long curve of sand. The Grande Plage runs along the front of the town, backed by the promenade known as the Remblai, and the streets behind it fill a narrow strip of land between the ocean and the harbour basins.
At the western end, a channel leads from the sea into the port, dividing the main town from the old fishing quarter of La Chaume on the opposite bank. Inland, the docks, marinas and salt marshes spread out in a pattern of water and flat ground. A Les Sables-d'Olonne map poster shows all of that: beach, channel, basins and the dense grid squeezed between them.
The town is known worldwide as the start and finish of the Vendée Globe, the solo round-the-world sailing race, when the channel is lined with spectators. In 2019 it merged with neighbouring Olonne-sur-Mer and Château-d'Olonne, so the municipality now extends well beyond the historic centre, with forest and more coastline to the north and south.

The narrow channel between the town and La Chaume is where Vendée Globe skippers leave for the open ocean and return months later.
Behind the seafront, port basins, marinas and old salt marshes make an intricate pattern of water, quays and flat land.

Koteā ko Les Sables-d'Olonne
For regular summer visitors, sailors and Vendée Globe followers, this coastline is instantly recognisable. The contrast between the smooth beach curve and the busy harbour works well in black and white, and even better in Blueprint.
