Malihabad lies just northwest of Lucknow, and its name is known across India for one reason: mangoes. The town is the heart of the Dasheri mango belt, and orchards stretch in every direction. On the map, the countryside around the town has a distinctive fine grain of plots, tracks and tree rows.
The town itself is compact and old, with narrow, winding lanes around bazaars and mosques and a few main roads leading toward Lucknow and Hardoi. The contrast between the dense core and the orderly orchards around it is the central idea of a Malihabad map poster.
