Te mapa
Marienberg was founded in 1521 in the Ore Mountains of Saxony, after silver was found nearby. Unlike most German towns of its time, it was planned from the start. The streets were laid out on a regular grid around a large, square marketplace, and this geometry is still clearly visible from above. It looks orderly and deliberate, almost like a diagram.
The market square is one of the largest in Saxony and sits at the exact centre of the plan. Straight streets run off each side at right angles, and a surviving town gate recalls the former fortifications. A Marienberg map poster suits this layout especially well, because the black and white lines show the Renaissance ideal of a rational, measured town with no distractions.
Outside the planned core, roads follow the rolling uplands of the Ore Mountains, winding between forests and former mining areas. The wider Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří mining region, which includes sites connected to Marienberg's silver mining past, was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019. The contrast between the grid and the landscape around it is the essence of this map.
Laid out in 1521, the old town's right-angled streets form a strikingly regular chessboard, which is rare in a region of medieval, irregular towns.
A vast square occupies the centre of the plan. It is one of the largest in Saxony and gives the map a strong, symmetrical focal point.
Beyond the grid, roads curve through the Ore Mountains among woods and old mining areas, linked to a UNESCO-listed mining heritage.

Koteā ko Marienberg
Marienberg's layout was designed as an image of order, and it works naturally as a framed print. It suits people with roots in the Erzgebirge, lovers of urban planning, and anyone drawn to strong, clean geometry.
You can set a custom title, subtitle and coordinates line and choose one of five styles. Blueprint suits the planned grid especially well. The $9 digital download covers six print sizes, from A3 to 24×36 inches, as 300 DPI PNG and PDF files.
