Te mapa
Matola is next to Maputo on the western side of Maputo Bay, where the Matola River widens into an estuary. From above it looks like a mix of residential neighbourhoods and industrial land, and it runs almost continuously into the capital. Roads leave the waterfront heading inland, and the plan becomes looser as it moves into the flatter country to the west.
The port area is the most distinctive part of a Matola map poster. Long quays, rail sidings and storage yards fill the estuary shore and handle bulk cargo for Mozambique and its inland neighbours. The main road and railway toward South Africa start here, so the city serves as a gateway on one of southern Africa's key trade corridors.
Away from the water, Matola becomes a quieter pattern of residential streets, local markets and open plots. Newer neighbourhoods add to it every year. The overall shape is uneven, with dense areas close to the bay and Maputo and wider spacing further out. That unevenness gives the map its character and an honest picture of a city that is still growing.

The main road and railway leave the port heading inland toward the South African border. Together they draw a clear axis through the city's western districts.
To the east Matola merges with the capital with no visible break. The map shows how the two cities work as one urban area around the bay.
