Te mapa
Mithi is the headquarters of Tharparkar district in Sindh, in the Thar Desert of southeastern Pakistan. On a map the town appears as a compact cluster of streets surrounded by open, sandy country. Dunes rise in long ridges, and roads follow the easiest routes between them. There are no rivers here, and the landscape is shaped by wind rather than water.
The town is widely noted for the long coexistence of its Hindu and Muslim communities, who share its markets and neighbourhoods. Gadi Bhit, a small hill on the edge of town, looks out across Mithi and the desert beyond and is a popular place to watch the sun set over the dunes. After the monsoon rains, the surrounding sand briefly turns green with grass and crops.
A Mithi map poster reduces this setting to its essentials: the dense grain of the town centre, the roads leading out to other settlements of Tharparkar, and the vast empty space around them. In black and white the contrast is stark. That suits a place defined by the relationship between a small town and a very large desert.
Narrow streets are packed tightly together in the heart of the town. They form a dense, irregular knot that stands out strongly against the open desert around it.
The low hill on the edge of Mithi is a local viewpoint over the rooftops and the surrounding dunes, a small but meaningful landmark in flat country.
Roads leave the town across sandy terrain towards other parts of Tharparkar. They appear as thin lines crossing wide blank areas at the edges of the print.

Koteā ko Mithi
For people from Tharparkar, Mithi is the centre of the district and often where school, work or family life was based. A map of its streets is a restrained reminder of home, and of a desert landscape unlike almost anywhere else.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line to make the poster your own. Sand is a natural match for the setting, while Noir and Classic black & white give a sharper look. The HD download costs $9, and you can see a free watermarked preview first.
