Te mapa
Mont-Royal, called the Town of Mount Royal in English, is one of the most recognisable planned communities in Canada. It was laid out in the early twentieth century by the Canadian Northern Railway, which built a tunnel under the mountain to reach downtown Montreal. The town was designed around the station at its centre.
On a map, the plan is striking. Two large diagonal boulevards cross in the centre and form an X over a grid of residential streets. Curving streets fill some of the spaces between them. Parks and green strips are spread throughout the plan, following garden city ideals of the time.
A Mont-Royal map poster shows one of the clearest town plans in Quebec, visible even at a small scale. Its edges are also well defined, with rail lines, highways and industrial areas surrounding it. The contrast between the orderly town and the busier city around it makes the print especially graphic.

The railway station sits at the centre of the design, with the rail line through town. The whole community was organised around this point.
Parks and green strips are distributed throughout the neighbourhoods. They add open spaces that soften the geometric street pattern.

Koteā ko Mont-Royal
Mont-Royal appeals to residents, architects, urban planners and anyone who admires a clearly designed town. The X-shaped boulevards turn a local map into a memorable piece of graphic design.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, in French or English, with a family name or date. There are five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint fits the planned layout perfectly.
