Te mapa
Montgenèvre sits on the pass of the same name at about 1,850 metres, right on the border between France and Italy. From above it is essentially a linear village. The main road from Briançon runs along the col and straight through the centre, with buildings on either side and ski slopes rising to the north and to the south.
The pass has been a route across the Alps since antiquity: the Roman road later known as the Via Domitia began here. Montgenèvre is also one of the oldest ski resorts in France. Its lifts connect across the border with Italian resorts in the Via Lattea, the Milky Way ski area, and the Durance rises on the slopes nearby.
A Montgenèvre map poster has a clear central axis. The road enters from the French side, passes the church and the resort buildings, and continues down toward Claviere and Italy. Lift lines, pistes and open high ground fill the rest of the frame on both sides of the col. This is a village defined by a crossing.
The road over the pass is the spine of the village: one strong line coming in from Briançon and leaving toward Italy, with most streets branching directly off it.
Claviere, the first Italian village, lies just beyond the frontier. The map shows two countries a short distance apart, joined by the same road and the same ski slopes.
The Durance starts its long journey to the Rhône on the slopes near the pass. On the map its first streams can be traced heading down toward Briançon.

Koteā ko Montgenèvre
Montgenèvre is where the French and Italian sides of the Alps meet, and many visitors ski both in a single day. A map of the pass captures that sense of crossing: a small village defined by one road and one border.
