Motru Map Poster & Print
Motru is a town in the west of Gorj County, in the hilly country between the Carpathian foothills and the Danube plain. It takes its name from the Motru River, which runs past the town and gives the map a winding natural line among the more regular street blocks.
The town grew around lignite mining, and the coal industry has shaped both its population and its surroundings. From above, large open workings and industrial sites appear around the settlement, contrasting with the neat blocks of flats and the smaller houses and gardens in the older parts.
