Pāli lies in the Marwar region of Rajasthan, between Jodhpur and the Aravalli hills. On a map the old town is a tight tangle of lanes and small blocks. Newer neighbourhoods and industrial areas spread out around it on flatter land, and the seasonal Bandi River runs past the town.
Pāli is known for textiles, especially dyeing and printing, and hundreds of small units work in the industry. The town is also a gateway to the Jain temples at Ranakpur and to the hill country further south. It is the administrative centre of Pāli district.
