Te mapa
Poperinge lies in the far west of Flanders, a short distance from the French border and west of Ypres. On a map, it shows the classic shape of a Flemish market town. Roads arrive from every direction and meet at a broad central square with the town hall and church, and the streets closest to the centre follow old, irregular lines.
Beyond the edge of town, the map opens onto a wide, mostly flat countryside of fields, farm tracks and small villages. The region is known across Belgium for growing hops, and Poperinge is often described as the country's hop capital. It has a hop museum and a hop festival held every few years.
A Poperinge map poster also carries a layer of history. During the First World War, the town lay just behind the Ypres front, and Talbot House, a rest house for soldiers, still stands in its centre. The large Lijssenthoek military cemetery lies on the outskirts. On paper, it all resolves into a calm radial pattern of roads around a square.
The central market square is where the town's main roads meet. On the poster, it is the clear focal point, and older streets branch out from it in slightly uneven lines.
Country roads leave the centre like the spokes of a wheel and head toward neighbouring villages. The pattern is typical of West Flanders and gives the print strong symmetry.
Wide farmland surrounds the town, where hop fields have been part of the landscape for centuries. On the map, the open ground sets the compact centre apart clearly.

Koteā ko Poperinge
Poperinge means different things to different people. For some it is home, for others the heart of Belgian hop and beer culture, and for others a place of remembrance connected to the First World War. A map can hold all of those meanings without spelling them out.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a family name, a visit date or a line of remembrance. Choose between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
