Te mapa
Port Angeles lies on the northern coast of Washington's Olympic Peninsula, facing the Strait of Juan de Fuca and, across it, Victoria in British Columbia. Its defining feature on the map is Ediz Hook, a narrow sand spit that curves out several kilometres into the strait. It encloses a deep natural harbour.
The downtown grid sits on a terrace above the waterfront, and the streets climb toward the foothills of the Olympic Mountains to the south. The town is the main gateway to Olympic National Park, with the road to Hurricane Ridge starting on its edge. A ferry crosses the strait to Victoria.
A Port Angeles map poster pairs the clean arc of Ediz Hook with a regular street grid and ravines that cut down to the water. The composition is strongly defined by the coastline, a harbour town positioned between the sea and the mountains.
This long natural sand spit curves out into the strait and forms the harbour. It is one of the most distinctive coastal shapes in the Pacific Northwest.
A regular grid rises from the waterfront onto a higher terrace and gives the town a tidy, structured centre above the harbour.
Several wooded ravines run down from the foothills to the water. They cut across the grid and add natural, irregular lines.
